When to See the Doctor

Osteoporosis does not have visible symptoms, so regular screening is recommended. If tests indicate a loss of bone density, your doctor may recommend that you take medications to help prevent further bone loss. Talk to your doctor about when and how often you should be screened for osteoporosis.

A telltale sign is if you get a fracture or break a bone while doing a routine activity that would not normally cause this to happen. Another sign of the disease you might notice is a loss of height.
