When to See the Doctor

Doctors studying RA now believe that damage to joints begins during the first year or two that a person has the disease. This is one reason why early diagnosis and treatment are so important in managing RA.
You should see your doctor if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis:
- Inflammation, swelling and pain in or around the affected joints.
- Joint stiffness in the morning (or after a long rest) lasting longer than 30 minutes.
- Joint swelling or discomfort interfering with daily activities.
If there is warmth or redness around the joints, see your doctor right away.
