Oncologists

An oncologist is a doctor that specializes in treating patients with cancer. An oncologist usually takes charge of a patient's care during all aspects of diagnosis and treatment for Hodgkin's disease. There are several types of oncology doctors, depending on their treatment approach and the population they treat.
Medical oncologists use chemotherapy drugs and other medical treatment plans for adult patients.
Radiation oncologists are trained in delivering therapeutic radiation to treat different types of cancers.
Surgical oncologists are trained in surgical procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including biopsies and removal of tumors.
The American Society for Clinical Oncology recognizes pediatric oncology as well. Pediatric oncologists treat children diagnosed with cancer using the three primary oncology treatment methods, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. There are also gynecologists who specialize in treating women with cancer. These gynecological oncologists are recognized by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and have received additional training in cancer surgery.
