Risk Factors for Leukemia

Only a small percentage of cases of leukemia have identifiable risk factors. Some of these are:

Chronic exposure to toxins, such as chemical solvents, pesticides and petroleum products.
Exposure to toxic levels of radiation.
Certain genetic disorders, such as Fanconi's anemia, Down syndrome.
Parent or sibling with chronic leukemia.
Past treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
