Risk Factors for Leukemia

Only a small percentage of cases of leukemia have identifiable risk factors. Some of these are:
- Chronic exposure to toxins, such as chemical solvents, pesticides and petroleum products.
- Exposure to toxic levels of radiation.
- Certain genetic disorders, such as Fanconi's anemia, Down syndrome.
- Parent or sibling with chronic leukemia.
- Past treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
