Symptoms
Lung cancer can result in symptoms caused by the primary tumor in the lung or by metastases, secondary tumors that have spread to other organs.
Primary lung tumor symptoms:
Chronic persistent cough.
Coughing up blood or sputum tinged with blood.
Repeated bouts of bronchitis or pneumonia.
Symptoms of local spread of tumor near the lungs:
Chest or rib pain.
Shortness of breath.
Hoarseness.
Swelling or mass in the neck.
Distant metastases (spread to other parts of the body):
Weakness on one side of the body.
Seizures.
Bone pain.
Back pain.
Jaundice.
This list does not include all possible symptoms. Lung cancer can manifest itself in many other ways. These symptoms can also indicate other medical problems. If you have any of them, you should see your doctor immediately.
