Living with cancer can be emotionally and physically challenging not only for the patient but also for other family members and friends who are involved in the patient's care. Your physician can play an important role in helping you to find needed support. Other health care team members, including nurses, social workers and dietitians, can help deal with many issues faced by the patient and family.
Patient-to-patient networks and lung cancer or general support groups often help. Who could understand what you and your family are dealing with better than someone who has been through it? Many hospitals support these networks. Ask your physician for one in your area.
The Cancer Information Service, a program of the National Cancer Institute, gives quick access to the latest information on cancer. Call 1-800-4-CANCER.
