When to See the Doctor

People exposed to asbestos should have annual check-ups. There is no recommended screening for mesothelioma. However, research is under way to develop testing for early diagnosis. Anyone who works with asbestos products should be aware of the level of exposure and wear protective gear at all times (masks and respirators).

Symptoms of mesothelioma, such as shortness of breath or chest pain, may be caused by many conditions and should be evaluated by a physician.
