Symptoms

Most women go to their doctor if they have abnormal bleeding or discharge from the vagina. If they are still menstruating, then the excess or irregular bleeding could be due to other, relatively benign conditions, such as fibroids or pelvic inflammatory disease. If the bleeding happens after menopause, it is called postmenopausal bleeding (PMB). There is a 10 percent chance that PMB is due to endometrial cancer.

If you have any of these symptoms, see your doctor:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Watery, milky vaginal discharge
  • Pain in the lower abdomen
  • Painful urination and/or pain during sexual intercourse
