Causes

The causes of type 2 diabetes are unclear. Diabetes runs in families in most cases. However, age, diet, obesity and a lack of exercise also play a role. The rising number of type 2 diabetes cases seems to correlate with the increasing number of overweight and obese Americans. About six out of every 10 Americans are overweight or obese.
If you don't control your diabetes well enough, you may end up with complications such as kidney disease, eye problems, nerve disorders and heart disease. In order to avoid or delay problems, keep tight control of your blood sugar, exercise and eat right.
