Fever

Headache

Tiredness

Body aches

Vomiting

Possible skin rash

Swollen lymph glands

 

Symptoms

Symptoms develop in three to 14 days after the bite of an infected mosquito. About 20 percent of people have mild symptoms. Most people infected with West Nile virus don't have any symptoms at all.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever, in 20 percent of cases.
  • Headache.
  • Tiredness.
  • Body aches.
  • Vomiting.
  • Skin rash on the trunk of the body.
  • Swollen lymph glands.

About one in 150 infected with the virus develops a more severe form of disease. In cases of more severe form of West Nile virus, the symptoms may last several weeks.

Symptoms include:

  • Headache.
  • High fever.
  • Neck stiffness.
  • Stupor.
  • Disorientation.
  • Coma.
  • Tremors.
  • Convulsions.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Paralysis.
