When to See the Doctor

See a doctor or therapist as soon as possible. Eating disorders can be cured if caught early enough. About 50 percent of people with eating disorders are cured. Counseling can help greatly. For others who may not be cured, the disorder can be managed effectively.
For some, especially adults, reaching out for treatment is difficult because they may have trouble admitting to themselves that they have a problem. Family and friends can help recognize an eating disorder.
Disordered eating is not the same as an eating disorder, although it can lead to one. Often, disordered eating happens during times of stress or while trying a fad diet. Often disordered eating goes away on its own. If disordered eating starts to interfere with your quality of life, get help.
