Symptoms

People may not be aware of symptoms of poor sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation, which lists the following symptoms:

  • Dozing off while reading, watching TV, sitting in meetings or in traffic.
  • Slowed thinking and reacting.
  • Trouble with listening.
  • Trouble remembering.
  • Frequent errors.
  • Poor attention span.
  • Poor judgment.
  • Depression.
  • Impatience.
  • Frequent blinking, difficulty focusing, painful eyes or heavy eyelids.

Insomnia is often characterized as:

  • Having trouble falling asleep.
  • Waking up frequently during the night with difficulty falling asleep.
  • Waking up too early in the morning.
  • Waking up tired.
