Other Tests

If your doctor runs out of options, you may be sent to a sleep disorders center, usually run by a medical school, private health care provider or hospital.
Specialized sleep studies are usually done if:
- There is a possibility you have a specific sleep disorder, such as narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome or sleep apnea.
- The problem is long standing (lasting more than six months).
- The problem is maintaining sleep rather than falling asleep.
Depending upon your case, you may need to stay overnight or you may be asked to bring home a small piece of recording equipment. Your doctor will tell you which kind of test you will undergo.
