When to See the Doctor

Bring your child to the doctor...
- If the condition doesn't improve with oral steroids within the time frame your doctor has given you in the asthma action plan.
- Your child is using the rescue inhaler more often than every three hours in a 24-hour period.
- If your child is not better after using a rescue inhaler or mini-nebulizer treatment.
If your child is in the Red Zone, give him or her their prescribed medication and call your doctor right away. If your doctor is not available, go to the emergency room right away. You may need to call 911 if symptoms continue or worsen.
Call 911 if your child shows the danger signs:
- Inability or trouble walking or talking due to your shortness of breath
- Blue fingernails or lips
Not following your doctor's instruction when your child has asthma can result in a life-threatening problem.
