Risk Factors

Anyone is at risk for catching a cold or the flu because viruses can be picked up anywhere, particularly in closed spaces such as on a train or in daycare centers. Touching common surfaces such as doorknobs and not washing your hands can increase your chances.

You are at risk for developing a sinus infection if you have had a cold, the flu or allergy. Some people are more at risk than others. While the cold or flu that may have caused it is contagious, bacterial sinusitis by itself is not.
