Prevention

Smoking is the cause of most COPD cases. If you stop smoking, you will significantly reduce your risk of developing COPD. Get the help you need to stop smoking.

Make sure you are protected from influenza and pneumonia. Get your flu shot once each year. Talk to your doctor about the pneumonia vaccine as well.

Poor air quality in urban areas can make COPD worse. Stay indoors on hot hazy humid days when ozone or other pollution levels are high.
