Risk Assessment Screen for Epilepsy

Are you at risk for developing epilepsy? In about 70 percent of cases, no known cause is found. There are however some factors that have been linked to an increased risk for developing epilepsy. Take our risk assessment quiz by answering "yes" or "no" to the following questions. Then read on to determine if you possess any risk factors for epilepsy.

  1. Have you sustained a head injury related to a fall, automobile accident, an act of violence, sports injury or other traumatic event?

  2. Did you suffer trauma during the birth process that resulted in a lack of sufficient oxygen during delivery?

  3. Have you been treated for lead poisoning?
    Yes    No
  4. Have you ever had an infection that involved the brain? Examples include meningitis, viral encephalitis, mumps, measles and diphtheria.

  5. Do you consume alcohol in excessive amounts?
    Yes    No
  6. Have you ever been treated for a brain tumor?
    Yes    No
  7. Do you have a family history of epilepsy?
    Yes    No
  8. Are you over age 65 with a medical history of prior stroke, cardiovascular disease or Alzheimer's disease?
    Yes    No
